DP
Douglas Ray
Doug got his start freelancing in 1989 as a lighting technician and grip. It was there that he fell in love with the art of shaping light. The emotional influence light and shadows have on the audience and the technical challenge to enhance a project without distracting from it quickly became his passion.
In just a couple of years he made the transition to gaffer and then DP while continuing to work as a technician. His niche markets are mid to high-end corporate and government videos, specializing in dramatic vignettes, complex green screen and talking heads.
Doug’s experience as a technician in feature films and episodic TV combined with the eye of a DP and still photographer give him a unique perspective and understanding of both the appropriate lighting effect and how to accomplish it. He takes the techniques learned while working on big budget projects, starting with “True Lies” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, and scales them to meet the needs of his clients.
